When we were at the WOG Rally in Pine Mountain, GA, our friend Steve Gureasko told us about another Rally in Texas in December. So here we are in Kerrville, TX, at Buckhorn RV Resort, with a handful of Wanderlodges and a few SOBs (Some other brands), and a few dozen current or past owners….
The Big Easy
Once we left Florida it was a quick trip across the lower ends of Alabama and Mississippi, and into Louisiana. We took a small detour to Hammond to drop our car at a mechanic that our friend, Steve, had recommended to us. Then we headed toward New Orleans. We stayed at Bayou Segnette State Park…
Gulf Islands, FL
After stopping by Reddick, FL to visit with Joe and Margo, the previous owners of our Bluebird, we made our way to the Gulf Islands, specifically Fort Pickens Campground on Santa Rosa Island. The island sits just off the coast of Pensacola, FL. This section of coast is a National Seashore, and Fort Pickens is…
Little Manatee River State Park
I wish we had more time to stay at this sweet little park! It is situated on the river although it is a half mile hike or drive from the campground. There are miles of hiking and equestrian trails in the park and you can rent canoes and kayaks to paddle down the river.
Ortuna Locks, FL
We arrived at Ortuna Locks Corps of Engineers Campground on Thursday. It is a small park, but as clean and well kept as I’ve seen. It sits on the Caloosahatchee canal near La Belle, FL. As we have been travelling through Florida, one of the coolest things I’ve been seeing is all the wildlife, particularly…
Floating on the edge of the river as the sun goes down…
I was just reflecting on how far we have come and how little we have actually travelled. Due to a number of unfortunate circumstances we have been “stuck” somewhere we didn’t intend to be, several times over the last few months. Each time we have found ourselves making new friends, exploring (and finding) cool places…
Back to Fort Stevens
Since the mechanic was in Astoria, we decided to move back to Fort Stevens on Sunday. Monday morning, Shahin took the car to get fixed and get some work done. I stayed behind and puttered around the coach. Shahin called and said they fixed the clutch, but had discovered that the wheel bearings were shot….
Disappointment at Cape Disappointment
The drive to Cape Disappointment was just a short one over an incredible bridge across the Columbia River into Washington state. We wondered at the name of the park that was our destination, but when we arrived, we were happy to find an available site right next to a lake. However, when unhitching the car,…
Fort Stevens
We had gotten a call from our friends Lucas and Linda that Fort Stevens had some vacant sites, so Shahin immediately got online and reserved three nights there. The drive from Portland was gorgeous, through high rain forest, lush and green. We pulled in late in the afternoon and immediately fired up the grill for…
On to Portland
We finally decided to head to Portland towing our 2004 Honda Element. A little way down the road, we saw a sign that said Ainsworth State Park. We have been impressed by what we’ve seen of Oregon’s State Parks so we decided to go take a look. We didn’t end up in the Park, but…
